Rebel Wilson Says ‘Pitch Perfect’ Contract Dictated Her Weight for Years

Rebel Wilson is revealing details about her weight loss journey.  While appearing as a guest on the podcast Call Her Daddy, the comedian claimed that she was not allowed to gain or lose more than ten pounds per her Pitch Perfect contract.

“I couldn’t lose a massive amount of weight because it was in the contracts for that movie,” said Wilson. “You can’t lose — I think it’s not more than 10 pounds or gain more than 10 pounds. You have to kind of stay at the weight. It’s in your contract.”

Wilson starred in three Pitch Perfect feature films from 2012 to 2017 as Patricia “Fat Amy” Horton, a member of the college a cappella group The Bellas. Wilson said that she “did wait until Pitch Perfect seemed like it was over” to begin losing weight due to her contractual obligations to remain within a certain weight range for the films. “I was thinking for awhile that I’d like get healthier,” Wilson said. “I was stereotyped in playing that fat, funny friend, which is so hard because I love those roles. I love doing the roles, I love those characters. But then I did want to do more things, but I felt like being the bigger girl, you’re just more pigeonholed.”

The Pitch Perfect franchise, starring Wilson, Anna Kendrick, Skylar Astin, Adam DeVine, Anna Camp, and Elizabeth Banks, was massively successful, with the first film unexpectedly grossing $115 million dollars at the box office. The sequel, Pitch Perfect 2, grossed $287 million worldwide and still holds the distinction of being the highest grossing musical comedy of all time. The third film, Pitch Perfect 3, grossed $185 million. A spin-off television series, Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin starring DeVine, Sarah Hyland, and Jameela Jamil, was recently greenlit for a second season on Peacock.
