Matt Damon Explains Why Kissing Scarlett Johansson Was ‘Hell’

Matt Damon has been in lots of films and because of this, has kissed many actors in his time. From the Minnie Driver pickle kiss in Good Will Looking, to a Michael Douglas smooch in Behind the Candelabra, the Oscar winner has had his justifiable share of kissing scenes. He even nearly made out together with his finest good friend, Ben Affleck in The Final Duel. Nonetheless, when discussing these scenes throughout an interview, he highlighted on lip-lock specifically. Apparently, his kissing scene with Scarlett Johansson was considerably awkward from a behind-the-scenes standpoint, and Damon even joked that it was “hell.”

The actor and his Oppenheimer co-star, Emily Blunt, sat down with LADBible, throughout which they shared a few of their preferences. At one level the topic turned to intimate scenes, and etiquette to approaching them. Each actors revealed they like to ensure their breath smells good and that they brush their tooth earlier than having to kiss their co-stars. The Martian actor in the end shared an anecdote about engaged on We Purchased a Zoo with Scarlett Johansson, and what prevented the main woman from having contemporary breath throughout their smooch. He mentioned: 

I needed to kiss Scarlett [Johansson] — needed to kiss. Are you able to think about how horrible that was for me? However we did. It was hell, okay? What occurred was we did a shot earlier than lunch, and it was like this good little two-shot that ended within the kiss. And it was actually good. And we went to lunch, and he or she and I each thought it was over. She ate like an onion sandwich for lunch. And she or he got here in and [We Bought a Zoo director] Cameron Crowe had set the digital camera up, and it was like a good shot of the kiss. And she or he goes, ‘Oh shit.’ She goes, ‘I actually simply had like an onion sandwich. I believed we did this.’
