Kal Penn, the most recent in a starry lineup of The Each day Present visitor hosts since Trevor Noah’s exit final December, booked a very high-profile visitor for his first present: Joe Biden, set to make his first Each day Present look since changing into president.

In an early clip from Monday evening’s episode, Biden discusses marriage equality with Penn, who spent greater than two years working for the Obama administration whereas taking a break from appearing. The host notes that he’d been engaged to his companion, Josh, for the final 5 years, and wonders what “the federal authorities may be capable of do to guard LGBTQ People, particularly trans children, who’re coping with all of those regressive state legal guidelines which are popping up.”

Biden replies by remembering an epiphany he had in highschool, after witnessing two males kiss for the primary time in entrance of his father. “Joey, it’s easy, they love one another,” he remembers his dad telling him. The president says he’s maintained that “easy” outlook concerning same-sex {couples} ever since. “Doesn’t matter whether or not it’s same-sex or a heterosexual couple, they need to be capable of be married. What’s the downside?” he says within the clip.

The commander-in-chief then turns his consideration to Florida lawmakers’ assaults on the transgender neighborhood, calling bans on rights for trans youth “near sinful.”

“It’s not like a child wakes up one morning and says, ‘You recognize, I made a decision I need to turn into a person or a lady,’” he continues. “I imply, what are they eager about right here? They’re human beings. They love, they’ve emotions, they’ve inclinations.”

He then says that the best way to fight such legal guidelines is by passing laws in Congress—as Biden did final 12 months, when his administration codified same-sex marriage rights. “It’s merciless, and the best way we do it’s we be sure we move laws like we handed with same-sex marriage,” Biden says. “You mess with that, you’re breaking the legislation and also you’re going to be held accountable.”
