The one lesson I’ve discovered from life: Louise Minchin, 54, says it’s by no means too late for a brand new begin

Louise Minchin, 54, introduced BBC Breakfast for nearly 20 years earlier than stepping down in 2021. She now hosts a podcast, Push Your Peak. She lives in Chester together with her husband David, a restaurateur, and their daughters, Mia, 20, and Scarlett, 18.

My happiest days up to now 12 months have been on Snowdon, within the pouring rain and freezing chilly. That’s one of many causes I left the BBC — so I might get out into the countryside, problem myself and have extra adventures.

The BBC is part of my identification and I look again on my time there — particularly on the Breakfast present — fondly. I beloved the crew, I beloved the viewers and I beloved being concerned in that extraordinary time within the morning, when everyone seems to be waking up and welcoming us into their properties. Individuals nonetheless come as much as me and say: ‘I used to get up with you daily,’ which may be very rewarding. However now I’m discovering out who the brand new Louise is and that’s thrilling.

I really feel like I’m in restoration from a sleep deficit after years of getting up at 3.40am. It was good as a mum as a result of it meant I used to be round within the afternoons. I used to be there for varsity pickup, tea, tub time and bedtime.

When my first daughter, Mia, left house three years in the past, I had no thought how unhappy it will make me really feel. There was an enormous sense of loss, as if a void had opened in my life. Then my youngest, Scarlett, went to college in September.

I used to be ready this time. I knew to get previous these emotions of loss; I wanted to maintain busy, have issues to stay up for and initiatives to work on. I’ve been writing a e book and getting myself again to health once more after a knee operation.

My husband is massively supportive. What has been nice for the reason that ladies left house is that we now have a bit extra time to do issues we take pleasure in collectively once more. We run, stroll within the hills and also have a power coach who trains us collectively.

I’ve realised life is best if you happen to hold transferring; you don’t need to cease doing stuff while you’re 50, and it’s by no means too late to strive one thing new. Final 12 months, I learnt free diving and even did it underneath ice. I don’t know what the tip of the story is, however I’m having fun with the journey.
