Olivia Wilde Responds to Criticism Over Calling A$AP Rocky “Hot” During Rihanna’s Super Bowl Halftime Show

Olivia Wilde clarified that she is not trying to steal Rihanna‘s man, just admiring someone being so respectful and supportive of their partner.

During the pop star’s Super Bowl halftime performance on Sunday, the Don’t Worry Darling director shared a since-deleted post on her Instagram Stories in which she expressed her attraction towards Rihanna’s boyfriend, A$AP Rocky. “If I thought he was hot before, this really put me over the edge,” Wilde wrote over a clip posted by Rolling Stone of the rapper on the field during Rihanna’s performance at Arizona’s State Farm Stadium, filming every single second as she sang a medley of her greatest hits on stage. She also tagged both Rihanna and A$AP on the post. But while the actor intended to compliment the couple, many followers interpreted the post as an inappropriate advance on the musician during a performance in which his partner revealed she is pregnant with their second child. A few hours later, Wilde logged back on the social media platform to clear up any confusion about her intentions. She once again shared the same video of A$AP, this time writing over the top, “For anyone who got it twisted…It’s hot to respect your partner. Especially when your partner just did thaaaaaat.”

If that clip didn’t immediately make it clear just how proud he is of his pregnant girlfriend and all she’s accomplished, back in January, the rapper also had nothing but praise for the pop star during an interview with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe. “I’m so glad that my lady’s back making music again and whatnot, and getting back out there. It’s just incredible,” he said. “The Super Bowl is huge, and her being the creative she is, she going to bring it, man. I’m excited. I’m more excited than everybody else, honestly.” He also opened up about fatherhood and how it’s given him a “whole new perspective” on life. “I can’t even explain it, man. You come home to heaven every day. I’m so thankful. God is good, man,” he said.

And clearly the respect is mutual as, in a May 2022 interview with Vogue, Rihanna gushed that after spending the pandemic quarantined together, the rapper “became my family in that time.” She went on to explain that she knew he was really the one when she took him home to Barbados for the holidays. “It was us who were going home,” she said. “We were going home.” And while her mom is typically difficult to impress, she took to her boyfriend right away. She continued, “My mother has a really good read on people. She observes first and then she’ll move slowly. I guess I’m like that too. There are some guys that I’ve dated that she won’t even look at to this day. But she was charmed by him from the jump.” Rihanna concluded, “I always thought it would be marriage first, then a baby, but who the fuck says it has to be that way. I’m certainly not gonna let that get in the way of me being a mom.”
