Halle Bailey Explains How The Little Mermaid’s Story Has Been Up to date To Be About Extra Than Simply ‘A Boy’

The authentic and traditional Disney animated film The Little Mermaid is over 30 years outdated, and whereas many issues about it can stay timeless, some components of it haven’t essentially aged properly. Over time, the storyline has been criticized for being regressive and sexist towards girls resulting from it being a few teen who provides up her life beneath the ocean for legs to get her crush, Prince Eric, to fall in love together with her – which he does with out listening to a phrase of her ideas or emotions. That apparently received’t be the case in 2023’s live-action remake.

The upcoming Disney film will replace some plot components of the 1989 film, per Halle Bailey. The actress shared her ideas on how live-action movie will cope with among the thematic criticism talking with Version, saying,

I’m actually excited for my model of the movie as a result of we’ve positively modified that perspective of simply her wanting to go away the ocean for a boy. It’s method greater than that. It’s about herself, her goal, her freedom, her life and what she needs. As girls we’re superb, we’re impartial, we’re fashionable, we’re every little thing and above. And I’m glad that Disney is updating a few of these themes.
